Elania Layman, Registered Massage Therapist, RMT

Greetings. My name is Elania and I am proud to be part of The Element Center and its variety of healers. I graduated from Heritage College in 2002 with a degree in Associates of Occupational Studies. I later was trained in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy as well as Cranial Sacral Therapy. I enjoy diversity and can also do Prenatal Massage, Hot Stone Therapy and Aura Clearings (energy work). I am looking forward to sharing time with you so that I can assist in your creation of balance, clarity, healing, and ease for your everyday life. You do create your life....may these therapies become a part of that. Below I would like to describe in further detail a few of my modalities. See you soon!
Ashiatsu seems to be the most popular amongst my clients. I use my feet for the entire treatment while holding bars on the ceiling for balance. The feet are used to give the whole body a deep, thorough flushing. A push-pull pumping effect is especially created along the spine and creates much relief for back pain. It's a great treatment for those who prefer deep work while also providing overall balance and rejuvination.
Cranial Sacral Therapy takes a completely different approach in healing. It is a technique that can have a profound effect on many levels as it balances the autonomic nervous system. Using the gentlest of touch, the therapist can gain access to the cranial sacral system throughout the entire body with extra emphasis on the bones of the cranium, the upper neck, the sacrum and the coccyx. This is accomplished by tuning into the rhythms of the cranial sacral wave. Cranial Sacral Therapy commonly creates an environment that allows stress, emotions or repressed memories to surface. This treatment brings clients into a new level of mental and emotional health, where they feel more relaxed and gain greater focus and clarity.
Aura Clearing/Chakra balancing can be integrated into any session. This focuses on energy or blockages in a person's body/space that does not serve them in their growth. In a sense, it lifts the fog and helps to clear away what the body/client is ready to let go of. This leaves a person with much more clarity, support, and validation to enjoy their path. Upon request I can do just the aura clearing while the person is sitting in a chair and integrate a reading into it.

Prenatal Massage:
Some of the numerous benefits of prenatal massage include:
* facilitation of the physiological process of gestation by supporting the work of the heart, increasing cellular respiration, reducing edema, and contributing to sympathetic nervous system sedation (aka: relaxation of the Momma brain).
* alleviation of stress on weight-bearing joints and musco-fascial structures
* reduction and alleviation of neck and back pain caused by improper posture, muscle weakness, tension and imbalance
* development of the sensory awareness necessary to embody kinesthetically the birth process (in order to birth, the musculature of the legs, back, abdomen, pelvic floor must release to allow to labor with no resistance.)
* an experience of loving, nurturing touch so that the women may more easily touch her own baby lovingly ( Study by Reva Rubin, University of Pittsburgh).
In the postpartum period, massage therapy can:
* facilitate the restoration of pre-pregnancy physiology through enhanced circulation and lymphatic drainage
* alleviate muscle strain and soreness produced by the labor and delivery process
* promote structural realignment of the pelvic region (also practiced by Sancken in prenatal care)
* facilitate healing from Cesarean section using connective tissue and scar massage techniques
* provide physical nourishment to a new Mama during the physical and emotional stress of earlier mothers.
